With support from UNICEF, the Northern Frontier Youth League (NoFYL) has rolled out the Girl Shine – Adolescent Girls Life Skills Curriculum across Women and Girls Safe Spaces in Belet-Xaawo and Dollow. This initiative is a cornerstone of NoFYL’s commitment to ensuring adolescent girls are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to navigate challenges and envision brighter future. It seeks to support, protect, and empower adolescent girls in humanitarian settings.
About the Curriculum
The Girl Shine Curriculum is a structured five-module program that engages 68 adolescent girls (married and unmarried) aged 10-15 and 16-19 in life skills education and mentorship. The modules focus on:
-
Building Trust and Teamwork
-
Socio-Emotional Skills
-
Safety
-
Health & Hygiene
-
Solidarity & Visioning
By combining interactive exercises, roleplays, group discussions, and creative activities, the program creates safe spaces where girls can speak openly, gain confidence, and develop practical skills.
“We are just at the beginning, but my hope is that this space becomes a second home for the girls – a place where they feel safe, respected, and able to express themselves freely and where they can grow into confident young women.” – Sahro Ibrahim, Facilitator, Belet-Xaawo
