Gender Based Violence

Protection from gender-based violence remains one of the most urgent needs for women and girls in Somalia's displacement-affected communities, where poor shelter conditions, limited lighting and long distances to essential resources heighten risk. Deep-rooted inequality compounds the problem, limiting women's access to services, decision-making and economic opportunity. Our response is survivor-centred and community-driven. Through women and girls' safe spaces, we provide case management and medical referrals, psychosocial support and counselling, awareness campaigns, and material support such as dignity kits and solar lanterns — paired with livelihood training, including tie-and-dye skills, to help survivors rebuild independence. We also invest in the wider system: mapping GBV services across South-Central Somalia to strengthen referral pathways, and conducting safety audits that inform practical improvements to the safety of camp environments.
